My journey into holistic care and healing started at a young age. Parts of my childhood were spent in the remote wilds of Alaska, far from medical care facilities. My mother became an amatuer healer for me and my brother and sister, taking care of our illnesses, scrapes, and injuries as much as she could using natural medicine. Later on as an adult, I continued to use natural remedies to heal the everyday pains I endured in the construction field.
However, when I was 21, my knees were badly injured in a worksite accident when I was knocked from a two-story building. Although I saw many doctors and was able to eventually walk without assistance, I was told that medications would be my only relief from pain. I did not want to take daily pills, so naturally I turned to alternative medicine to seek help. For the first time in my life, I visited an acupuncturist - and finally found relief from pain.
I remember being fascinated with the magic of the medicine, but it did not cross my mind that this would be a career. I have severe dyslexia that made school very difficult, and after graduating from high school, I had no thoughts about pursuing higher education! It was not until nearly a decade later, after I had moved to the Big Island, that I found my way to this path. A passionate devotee of martial arts since the age of 12, I had found a teacher who expanded my exploration of qi. A training partner mentioned I would make a good acupuncturist, and suddenly, the calling would not leave my mind. Around the same time, I met the person who would become my life partner, and she encouraged me to follow this path. I enrolled at UH-HIlo, and after some grueling but also joyful years, I graduated from the Traditional Chinese Medicine College of Hawai'i.
I now have more than a decade of experience as a practicing acupuncturist and massage therapist. I am passionate about helping each of my patients find balance in their lives, in their body, energy, and spirit. I am so grateful that each day I have the honor and privilege to help others on their healing journey, as so many helped me on mine.
